DMW Architects were pleased to visit their nearly completed perched house overlooking Poole Harbour this week. On a very challenging steeply-sloping site, we were able to design a lightweight steel frame building to exploit levels and the wonderful Southerly views.
The building peaks over the surrounding vegetation with a perimeter balcony elevated within the tree canopy. It is accessed via a suspended walkway through a stand of mature trees. Upon entering you are met with a panoramic vista of the harbour and Purbeck hills beyond. An external staircase leads you out into the surrounding woodland beneath the house.
Externally, the larch cladding was stained dark to camouflage deep into the shadows of the tree canopy. In contrast to the exterior appearance, internally the space is light and bright with focus to the views.
We will soon have better photography to further showcase this interesting project…
