We were originally approached by our client to extend the existing thatched cottage, which was in a dliapidated state. During the design process the structural condition of the existing building was deemed to be unstable, so a strategy was adopted to replace it.
Working collaboratively with The National Trust and the Conservation Officer at East Dorset District Council, planning consent was agreed under condition that the replacement cottage must be a ‘like for like’ replacement. An additional slate roof side extension and single storey roof lit garden room were also included to achieve the client’s original objective.
Providing a full service for the project, DMWA also developed construction drawings and building regulation plans, meeting the challenge of satisfying modern regulations using traditional construction techniques.
