Funeral Home Remodelling

DMWA have been appointed by Douch Funeral homes to remodel their existing premises at Wareham Rd, Corfe Mullen.

The existing building has been developed over time on an ad hoc basis, resulting in small dark rooms linked with long corridors, creating a poor quality and incoherent internal environment. Externally the existing building appears more as a residential dwelling rather than a funeral home.

Our design response seeks to remodel the interior to create light and bright spaces which flow and connect. At ground floor the private chapels are clustered to the south, with more public spaces to the north. At first floor it is proposed to locate some offices and support facilities within a roof extension.

Externally the design seeks to create a coherent identity, which reflects the significant functions of the building.

A planning application was submitted in March 2016 following a positive pre application response.
