New Dwelling
Winchester, Hampshire

DMWA have been approached to design this replacement dwelling in a rural site near Winchester, Hampshire.┬áHaving recently purchased the site, our clients seek to replace an existing bungalow with a purpose built 2 storey family home that will suit their lifestyle and needs. The existing 1970’s bungalow does not provide sufficient accommodation and suffers from a poor relationship with its setting. The result is a dark interior with limited outlook or links to the exterior.

The proposed dwelling will be a simple vernacular form with a material palette of brick/render and timber cladding, referencing the local agricultural context.

With help from a 3d model of the existing site, we have been able to utilise shadow studies to arrange the plan form and orientation around the path of the sun, maximising natural light in the primary living spaces and proposed external terraces.

A planning application was submitted to Winchester City Council in January 2015 following a positive pre application process.
