Tower House
East Dorset

DMWA were appointed in early 2017 to look at extending and remodelling a tired property in need of modernisation on a tree-lined site in East Dorset.

The client required the new building to be highly insulated and exploit renewable sources of heating and energy. The first floor will be constructed of timber frame and sit lightly over the original, reinforced wall plate. Dark stained vertical timber boarding expressed as a lightweight pitch roof form, floats over the existing ground floor horizontal coursed brick walls. The walls at ground floor will extend into the garden to enclose and define the external amenity spaces and provide a visual foil for the new soft landscape scheme.
