HIll House

DMWA have been commissioned to design two new houses to replace an existing dwelling in an elevated position within a dense woodland setting. The site is heavily constrained with root protection zones and a significant level drop of approximately 1 storey between the two plots.

By modelling the site in 3d and testing various solutions, we have developed a design that is based around perpendicular liner blocks that offer privacy to ground floor living spaces and dramatic unimpeded views to the bedrooms upstairs.

The proposed dwellings nest into the woodland setting, with ‘lightweight’ structures appearing to sit on masonry retaining walls and ground floor structures that bleed into the landscape.
