Situated on one of the highest vantage points in the area, this new, environmentally friendly lightweight modern home takes in incredible views across a protected heathland, Poole Harbour and the distant Isle of Purbeck beyond.

The brief was simple; to exploit views, harness the sun's energy and warmth and to create a sustainable, low energy, low-budget family home. The concept is centred around a series of perpendicular masonry walls that are configured to inform access, space and views.

Adopting a simple plan layout with reoccurring common structural elements, we were able to reduce big span elements to minimise costs. A lightweight timber box floats over the top of the ground-borne masonry walling.

Due to the nature of its position and orientation, we were able to design the building around passive solar principles. A suite of renewable systems are integrated within the home, further reducing demand for energy. Overall, this modern home offers breathtaking views, sustainability, and energy efficiency.
