DMW Architects were appointed by FC Douch & Son in 2015, to extend and convert their existing funeral home in Corfe Mullen.
The Lesley Shand Funeral Home had been running for many years and required updating to provide a suitable facility for families.
Our brief was to create a building which was light, bright and welcoming. During our first meeting Jonathan Stretch, Director at FC Douch & Sons told us: ‘for many people this is the last door in the street that you want to walk through’.
With this in mind it was important to create a building with warmth, light and openness, in contrast to the existing building.
The design uses western red cedar which creates an elegant datum, with feature gables set over to provide interest and contrast to the elevation.
The new facility houses 5 chapels of rest, a service chapel, meeting room and office facilities.
