The Thames Reach showreel provides an overview of this prestigious project in Hammersmith, London, which gained planning consent in March 2020.
The existing building was designed by renowned architect Richard Rogers and constructed between 1986-1988. The building is held in the highest regard by residents and architectural commentators and is a short distance from the former Rogers studio at Thames Wharf.
The apartment block lies directly adjacent to the Thames and is afforded wonderful views of the Harrods Furniture Depository and Hammersmith Bridge.
The brief called for an extensive remodelling of the existing, together with a lightweight structure at the upper level to provide additional living accommodation.
The existing building has a restrictive covenant which prevents any structural changes to the roof and as a result we were unable to introduce any vertical circulation (stairs) within the existing structure.
The solution introduces two interconnecting elements one at first floor and the second at the upper level. The key thing here is the overlap between the forms which allows the staircase to be located.
Due to the sensitive nature of the scheme, a construction animation was produced together with detailed drawings and comprehensive support material.
The proposals were supported by Lord Rogers, Hammersmith and Fulham Council and were granted consent at planning committee in 2020.
Works on site are due to commence early 2022.
