DMW Architects were appointed as architects and lead consultants for the conversion and extension of a significant public building located in a Grade II Listed park in Poole, Dorset. The aim of the project was to create a vibrant, family-friendly space that harmonises with its historic parkland and lakeside setting.
The proposals included the design and specification of a new ice rink, children's soft play area, ice cream parlour, and a large café extension, as well as refurbishments to the entire complex. Internally, the design focused on responding to the specific functions of each area, with materials, colours, and finishes chosen to create a playful and welcoming atmosphere.
Externally, a sensitive approach was taken to blend in with the modernist style of the existing building and the surrounding parkland. Detailed studies of the existing building were conducted to understand its structure and style, informing an appropriate architectural response. DMW Architects also played a role in developing the new branding for the facility.
